Independent Projects!

This post features student writing.

Hi all! Today the group started their independent projects. In the morning, everyone left at different times to go to their destinations. The projects ranged from brick-making to Mandarin lessons. Some went to the pre-school for teaching, and others painted murals. At around 12 pm, everyone congregated back at the compound for lunch. A group of seven batik artists joined us in the afternoon. Batik work is made by using fabric, wax, and dye to create designs on the fabric. They set up their beautiful and unique work all around the compound with art stations so we could make our own batiks. You would first go to the waxing station, then the dying station, then the fire to dry our work. After we created our own batik, comprised of vibrant contrasting colors and designs, we were able to purchase the professional work made by the artists. After our workshop we had a delicious dinner cooked by the Mamas, and that was the end of our day! Thanks for reading.
